Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- On Thursday, September 15th, agents from the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force raided the home of a University of Alabama theater student and recovered “23.3 grams of Fentanyl, a quantity of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), amphetamine, cocaine HCL, marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia.” Ashley Rose Newman, 21, has been charged with drug trafficking and is being held on a $1.5 million bond.
- One of the latest trends to hit the state of Alabama has been reports of “social media clown” threats. Schools in Birmingham, Irondale, Rainbow City and others faced threats yesterday. Incidents have also occurred in Calhoun and Etowah County as well as southern Alabama cities like Flomaton. Arrests of teens and young adults posting the threats have been made in Calhoun and Escambia counties.
- A Jefferson County woman faces attempted murder charges after intentionally ramming a vehicle carrying her husband and her mother. The wreck was the result of an argument between the three adults and the suspect allegedly rammed the vehicle several times and caused it to roll over. She is in the county jail with bond set at $40,000.
