Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- Police have taken Derrick Dearman, the man accused of killing six people in a home outside Citronelle this past Saturday, back to Mobile. He faces six counts of capital murder (one of the victims was pregnant). According to the Mobile Sheriff’s Office, Dearman turned himself into authorities in Mississippi.
- The Madison-Morgan County Drug Task Force reported that they made their biggest seizure of methamphetamine in the unit’s history. At Ernesto Bustos’ apartment and a storage unit, the agents seized 6.8 pounds of meth (street value of $250,000 approximately) and $10,000 cash.
- Birmingham police have indicted a 26-year-old man in the death of his mother. The capital murder charges come after Roselyn D. Welton was discovered dead by relatives in her home this past spring. Police believed Anton Welton stabbed and/or beat his mother to death while trying to steal her cell phone and 2008 Chevrolet Equinox.
