Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- A month-long investigation aimed at combating drugs and drug crimes in Etowah County has resulted in 353 arrests as well as the seizure of more than 5o pounds of marijuana, ten of thousands of dollars in cash, drug pipes, hypodermic needles and illegally owned weapons. According to authorities, they averaged 15 arrests a night and the pace is expected to continue.
- A TV detective is now facing real criminal charges in Madison County. An actor from the NBC series “Hawaii”, Sean Decambra facing fraud charges in Huntsville (along with two other suspects) after authorities accused them of creating a forgery and fake ID factory in a $500,000 squatter house. Over 80 trash bags worth of evidence were found in the home.
- A man suspected in the February 15th shooting death of Tavares Smith, 36, has been booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Birmingham authorities believe the shooting may have resulted from an ongoing feud between Smith and the suspect, 36-year-old Broderick Collins. Collins had been arrested last year for drug possession and gun charges; he also had previously served time for a 2002 attempted murder conviction.
