Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- Hoover Police report that they have charged a 75-year-old Tennessee man with first-degree armed robbery. Donald Smith and another suspect lured a victim into the Courtyard at Marriott Hotel on Montgomery Highway in late March to participate in a fraudulent checking scheme. The two men then robbed the victim of a “large amount of money.” Police are still looking for the second suspect.
- A 29-year-old Jefferson County woman has been captured and formally charged with the stabbing death of her 49-year-old mother in a Bessemer Walmart parking lot that occurred on August 27th The daughter and boyfriend fled the scene and eluded police until they were apprehended in Adger on Monday.
- A raid of a Tarrant residence recovered 40 marijuana plants with several close to ten feet tall. The family who lives in the house was not at the scene and no arrests have been made, but police believe this is a curated and intentional drug operation.
