Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- A Birmingham man is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail on two counts of third-degree burglary, first-degree burglary and second-degree assault. Fabian Aaron Taylor, 37, is suspected of breaking and burglarizing an Irondale house twice, once on August 22nd and another time on the 24th, as well as attacking the homeowner during the second break-in. A third burglary occurred on September with surveillance cameras capturing images of the suspect, pictures that were subsequently delivered to Birmingham media.
- A fourth suspect has been named in the January 5th shooting death of Iraq War veteran Mike Gilotti and recently had his preliminary hearing. Another defendant identified the 20-year-old De’Ron Lucas as being a driver for the other defendants that morning, though Lucas’ attorney has dismissed the claim. Lucas is being held on a $1 million bond.
- A group of eight North Alabama residents are facing felony charges in regards to fraudulent distribution and use of food assistance cards. Four of the suspects have been named and charged with public assistance fraud, a Class C Felony that is punishable up to 10 years in prison. Court records showed that the fraud occurred in 2015 and 2016.
