Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- On Monday, Cullman police searched a local Days Inn hotel room after receiving a report of three suspicious men loitering in the parking lot. After interviewing the suspects and searching the rooms, the officers found equipment for producing payroll checks, more than 80 hypodermic needles and 2.5 pounds of methamphetamine. Their Jeep was also found to be stolen.
- Police have arrested and charged the second suspect, a 65-year-old man, in connection with the robbery at the Court at Marriott Hotel in Hoover, an event that began with a fraudulent checking scheme that lured in the victim. The other suspect was 75.
- On Tuesday, a Baldwin County grand jury indicted a 79-year-old Montgomery with aiding and abetting the murder of her 87-year-old husband inside a Foley home in 2014. The woman’s 57-year-old son is charged with capital murder and abuse of corpse. Arguments over money allegedly led to the killing of Kenneth Hood, according to District Attorney Hallie Dixon in 2015.
