Alabama Criminal Law Round-Up February 28th

Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:

• Two weeks ago, Fairfield teen Eric Dial Jr. was shot to death outside of his home. No motive has been reported, but police took a 29-year-old Marquis Bell – who has prior convictions for marijuana possession and for carrying a concealed weapon – into custody. Police said the second suspect, 25-year-old Phillip Jamarcus Moore, remained at large until he was arrested this past Tuesday. Moore also had prior convictions for cocaine possession and second-degree robbery. Both men were each released on a $75,000 bond and are awaiting trial.
• This past Wednesday, Jackson County authorities executed a search at a Bridgeport home and seized 194 marijuana plants. Police charged 18-year-old Richard DeJarnette with first-degree possession of marijuana, a Class D Felony. DeJarnette was later released on $2500 bail. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office also reported the arrest of the second resident in the home, 28-year-old Dustin Davis, and said that was he was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Davis was later released on a $300 bond.
• The Justice Department announced Friday that they had indicted a Huntsville woman with federal charges of dealing firearms without a license and five counts of providing false information to purchase the firearms. According to authorities, she could face up to a $250,000 fine and 10 years of prison for each charge.
