Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- Shelby County authorities seized 48 pounds of high-grade marijuana in the Southside area this past Monday. The multi-jurisdictional drug bust occurred when police executed a search warrant at the Highlands Park home of Joshua Christopher Burchfield, 24. After seizing the drugs (worth more than $150,000), police charged Burchfield with first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and drug trafficking, and he is currently in jail with $82,500 worth of bonds.
- Anniston police recently charged a local man with the shooting deaths of two other men that occurred last week. Though police continue to investigate on the hypothesis that the shootings occurred at the same time, the bodies were found nearly twelve hours apart. The 32-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with capital murder.
