Here are a few of the criminal law stories that occurred around the state of Alabama this past week:
- Adamsville police recently arrested three people in connection with a big-money scam that has wired at least one million dollars to Nigeria. Victims of the scam were approached via announcement of lottery ticket winnings, Craigslist ads and other online sales that required money to be sent over through PayPal or MoneyGram. Two of the suspects were recruited by an Edward Ford, who provided the information to funnel the money to Nigeria. All three have been charged with theft of property.
- Alabaster police are looking for a suspect connected with the robbery and shooting death of a local convenience store clerk this past Sunday morning between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. (the time the victim was found by a customer). The person of interest caught on camera near the service station was a black male around 5-foot-9 wearing a black fedora. Police say this is the first homicide in six years for the city of Alabaster.
- Heflin police recently conducted two separate traffic stops that resulted in three individuals facing drug charges. The driver and passenger in the first stop were arrested f0r drug trafficking after police discovered a quarter pound of meth under the seat. The officers involved in the second incident discovered a quarter pound of marijuana and 172 Ecstasy tablets after searching a car they had pulled over for erratic driving.
